New season underway for Algoma, Sault College basketball teams

The Sault College men's hockey team was also in action over the weekend

The sports seasons have shifted into basketball season at both Algoma University and Sault College.

Both schools had a number of teams in action.

Among them were games in both men’s and women’s basketball

On Saturday in the women’s game, Lambton outscored Sault College 23-6 in the third quarter en route to an 83-44 win.

Breanna Pretty of Lambton led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Cassidy Crowe chipped in with 15.

Skylar Toms had 13 points for Sault College. Clara Yanchuk had 12 points.

Sunday's women’s game saw Crowe score 23 points in a 104-50 win.

Cassidy Sabourin and Andrea Gorman had 12 points each for Sault College.

In Saturday’s men’s game, Tyvell Peters had 24 points as Lambton beat Sault College 95-74.

Simon Wal of Sault College led all scorers in the game with 27 points.

On Sunday, Jason Watts had 19 points as Lambton won the second game by a 77-59 margin.

Wal had 17 points for Sault College while Kevon Clarke chipped in with 16.

In Ontario University Athletics action, the Algoma men’s and women’s teams were in action on the road at York University.

In Saturday’s women’s game, York beat Algoma 71-49.

Megan MacLeod had 15 points for York.

Karly Fracalanza led Algoma with 14 points.

In the men’s game on Saturday, Algoma outscored York 26-16 in the fourth quarter to pick up a 74-72 win.

Algoma’s Peter Wetuvanga led all scorers in the game with 24 points. Nicholas Gehlen had 16 points.

DeAndrae Pierre had 14 points for York.

In American Collegiate Hockey Association action over the weekend, Ryan Vendramin and Steven Khull had five points each as Sault College beat Oakland University 13-5 on Sunday.

Vendramin had three goals and two assists while Khull had two goals and three assists. Tanner Mayne assisted on six goals.

Brad Thrower chipped in with three goals and an assist.

Mark Tassone and Bryceton Lalonde had a goal and three assists each.

Sault College opened the weekend with a 13-1 win on Saturday.

Khull had two goals and four assists while Vendramin had three goals and two assists
