North Stars ousted from Big Nickel despite win

The Soo North Stars finished the Big Nickel Tournament with a win, but it wasn't enough to advance into the playoff round.

The North Stars, the Sault's AAA midget representatives, concluded the tournament with a 6-1 victory over the Lampton Jr. Sting on Saturday afternoon in Sudbury to finish with a win, loss and a tie in three games.

Matt D'Agostini, Michael D'Agostini, Paul Dupont, Zac Torquato, Frank D'Addetta and Michael Sharp all scored for the North Stars in the win.

In earlier action, the North Stars lost to Gloucester 3-2 on Friday before opening the tournament with a 2-2 tie on Thursday.

Torquato and Matt D'Agostini scored in the North Stars loss on Friday.

The North Stars return to Great North Midget League action next weekend with a pair of games at the John Rhodes Community Centre against the North Bay Trappers.

Game times are 7 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
