The Sault North Stars came from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves this afternoon at the Rhodes Arena by a score of 4-3.

The North Stars opened the scoring at 14:43 of the first period on a goal by Brett Thompson with assists going to Micky Sartoretto and Mike Rivard.

Sudbury tied the game at the 5:04 mark of the first on the power play, as Calum MacLeod scored assisted by Craig Laliberte.

Sudbury scored two unanswered goals in the second period, the first scored by PJ Taus from Ryan Sidun at 11:54 and the second at 9:15 scored by Chuck Carre from Marcus Foligno and Denis Restoule.

Down 3-1, the North Stars came out strong in the third period with Jarrett Burton scoring a pair, the first from Kurtis Travaglini and Bronson Kovacs at 14:47 and his second from Jerry Petingalo at 5:47.

Then with 2:23 remaining, Jerry Petingalo scored on the power play from Mike Rivard and Brett Thompson to go ahead 4-3 and held on for the win.

With the win the North Stars now take a 1-0 lead in the best of five series. Next action in the Great North Midget League Championship series is tomorrow, Sunday March 18 at the Rhodes Arena. Game time is 1:00pm
