The return to Great North Midget League play for the Soo North Stars was a successful one.

After dropping the 24th Steel City International Hockey Tournament championship game last Sunday, the North Stars resumed GNML play this weekend with a pair of road games.

On Friday, the North Stars opened the road trip with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Valley East Cobras as Paul Dupont scored the game winner 2:46 into overtime.

Dupont also added a goal earlier in the game while Tyler Gendron added a goal and two assists and Matt Conway scored another. Ryan Dube recorded the win in goal.

Scott Faulkner paced Valley East with a pair of goals while Justin Levac scored the other.

On Saturday, the North Stars completed the sweep with a 9-5 win over the Rayside Balfour Jr. Sabrecats as the Soo broke open a 4-3 game with five third period goals.

Jake Reid scored four times to pace the North Stars while Derrek Coccimiglio notched a pair. Trevor McNutt scored a goal and three assists, Gendron added a goal and two helpers and Zac McNally scored once.

Jake McClelland collected four assists in the game while Dupont setup two others. Travis O'Brien gained the victory in net.

The North Stars, now 25-1-1-1 in the GNML, will return home next weekend for a pair of games against the Sudbury Nickel Capitals at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
