North Stars suffer first GNML loss

The Soo North Stars received their first taste of defeat this Great North Midget League season. The North Stars followed a 3-2 victory over the Valley East Cobras on Saturday with a 6-5 overtime loss to the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats on Sunday.

The Soo North Stars received their first taste of defeat this Great North Midget League season.

The North Stars followed a 3-2 victory over the Valley East Cobras on Saturday with a 6-5 overtime loss to the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats on Sunday.

Against Rayside, the North Stars trailed 4-0 at one point but rallied to send the game into overtime.

Alex Cruise, Matt Amadio, Mike Rivard, Kurtis Travaglini and Brett Thompson scored for the North Stars, who were outshot 39-35, in the loss. Luke O'Brien assisted twice.

O'Brien, Jerry Petingalo and Anthony Colizza scored for the Stars in the win over Valley East.

Next action for the North Stars is this weekend when they take on the Timmins Majors. Games times are Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
