OHL Announces League All-Stars

Toronto – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the All-Star Teams for the 2006-07 regular season.

First Team Centre: John Tavares, Oshawa Generals

Tavares led the Oshawa Generals in scoring with 72 goals and 62 assists for 134 points in 67 games this season. Tavares finished the season second overall in OHL scoring. The 16-year-old native of Oakville, Ontario was named the OHL Player of the Month for January and March of this season and represented the Eastern Conference All-Stars at this year’s OHL All-Star Classic, in Saginaw. Tavares is the 2006-07 recipient of the Red Tilson Trophy as the OHL’s Most Outstanding Player, as selected by the media. Tavares is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Left Wing: James Neal, Plymouth Whalers

Neal scored 27 goals and 38 assists for 65 points in 45 games this season. The 19-year-old native of Whitby, Ontario represented the Western Conference All-Stars at this year’s OHL All-Star Classic. Neal was selected to the Dallas Stars in the 2nd round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Right Wing: Patrick Kane, London Knights

Kane led all OHL players in scoring this season with 62 goals and 83 assists for 145 points in 58 games this season along with a plus 42 rating. Kane was also named to the Western Conference All-Star Team and is the 2006-07 Emms Family Award winner as the OHL Rookie of the Year. Kane was also named to the First Team Rookie All-Stars. The 18-year-old native of Buffalo, New York was a 5th round selection of the Knights in 2004 and is eligible for this year’s NHL Entry Draft.

Defence: Marc Staal, Sudbury Wolves

Staal finished the regular season with five goals and 29 assists for 34 points in 53 games. Staal represented the Eastern Conference All-Stars at this year’s All-Star Classic and is the 2006-07 Max Kaminsky Trophy winner as the OHL's Most Outstanding Defenceman. Staal was Sudbury’s 1st round selection in the 2003 OHL Priority Selection and was selected to the New York Rangers in the 1st round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Defence: Drew Doughty, Guelph Storm

Doughty finished the regular season with 21 goals and 53 assists for 74 points in 67 games. Doughty represented the Western Conference All-Stars at this year’s All-Star Classic and was named the Defenceman of the Month for January and February. Doughty was Guelph’s 1st round selection in the 2005 OHL Priority Selection. Doughty is eligible for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Goalie: Steve Mason, London Knights Mason posted an impressive 45-13-1-3 record, along with a 3.20 goals against average and a .914 save percentage, in 62 games this season. Mason was named the OHL Goalie of the Month for November.

Coach: Michael Vellucci, Plymouth Whalers

Vellucci guided the Whalers to an impressive 49-14-2-3 record this season, the most wins in his Ontario Hockey League coaching career, while capturing the Bumbacco Trophy West Division Championship for the second consecutive year. Vellucci has coached the Whalers for the past six seasons and has an overall coaching record of 228-124-36-20 and a winning percentage of .627.

Second Team Centre: Bryan Little, Barrie Colts

Little led the Colts in scoring with 41 goals and 66 assists for 107 points in 57 games this season. Little represented the Eastern Conference All-Stars at this year’s All-Star Classic and was named the OHL Player of the Month for October. The 19-year-old native of Cambridge, Ontario was a 3rd round selection of the Barrie Colts in the 2003 OHL Priority Selection.

Left Wing: Brett MacLean, Oshawa Generals

MacLean scored 47 goals and 53 assists for 100 points in 68 games this season. MacLean represented the Eastern Conference All-Stars at this year’s All-Star Classic. The 18-year-old native of Port Elgin, Ontario was a 1st round selection of the Erie Otters in the 2004 OHL Priority Selection.

Right Wing: Tyler Donati, Belleville Bulls

Donati led the Bulls in scoring with 54 goals and 75 assists for 129 points in 66 games this season. Donati represented the Eastern Conference All-Stars at this year’s All-Star Classic and is the winner of the Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy as the OHL's Top Overage Player for the 2006-07 season.

Defence: Jakub Kindl, Kitchener Rangers

Kindl scored 11 goals and 44 assists for 55 points in 54 games this season. The 20-year-old native of Pardubice, Czech Republic was a 1st round selection of the Kitchener Rangers in the 2004 CHL Import Draft.

Defence: Ryan Parent, Guelph Storm

Parent scored three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 43 games this season. The 19-year-old native of Sioux Lookout, Ontario was a 1st round selection of the Guelph Storm in the 2003 OHL Priority Selection and was selected to the Nashville Predators in the 1st round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Goalie: Michal Neuvirth, Plymouth Whalers

Neuvirth had a record of 26-8-2-2 in 41 games this season posting a 2.32 goals against average and a .932 save percentage. Neuvirth was named the OHL Goalie of the Month for January and was named to the Second Team Rookie All-Stars. The 19-year-old native of Usti Nad Labem, Czech Republic was a 1st round selection of the Plymouth Whalers in the 2006 CHL Import Draft.

Coach: Mike Kelly, Mississauga IceDogs

Kelly led the IceDogs to an impressive 43-21-0-4 record and a .662 winning percentage in only his first season behind the bench as head coach. Kelly guided the IceDogs to a second place finish in the Central Division and a berth in the post-season.

Third Team Centre: Sam Gagner, London Knights

Gagner scored 35 goals and 83 assists for 113 points in 53 games this season. The 17-year-old native of Oakville, Ontario was named to the First Team Rookie All-Stars and finished fifth overall in league scoring.

Left Wing: Jamie McGinn, Ottawa 67’s

McGinn led the 67’s in scoring with 46 goals and 43 assists for 89 points in 68 games this season. McGinn represented the Eastern Conference All-Stars at this year’s All-Star Classic.

Right Wing: Sergei Kostitsyn, London Knights

Kostitsyn scored 40 goals and 91 assists for 131 points in 59 games this season. The 20-year-old native of Novopolotsk, Belarus finished third overall in league scoring.

Defence: Alex Pietrangelo, Mississauga IceDogs

Pietrangelo scored seven goals and 45 assists for 52 points in 59 games this season, along with a plus-40 rating. Pietrangelo was named to the First Team Rookie All-Stars.

Defence: Patrick McNeill, Saginaw Spirit

McNeill scored 22 goals and 32 assists for 58 points in 58 games this season. The 20-year-old native of Strathroy, Ontario was a 1st round selection, 1st overall of the Saginaw Spirit in the 2003 OHL Priority Selection.

Goaltender: Thomas McCollum, Guelph Storm

McCollum had a 26-18-3-7 record in 55 games this season and posted a 2.39 goals against average and a .918 save percentage. McCollum represented the Western Conference All-Star Team at this Year’s All-Star Classic and was named to the First Team Rookie All-Stars.

Coach: Dave Barr, Guelph Storm

Barr led the Storm to a 33-23-3-9 record this season and a .574 winning percentage. Barr is a graduate of the CHL and NHL and won Coach of the Year honours last season.
