As the snow continues to melt, a trio of football teams locally are preparing for another season.

In the Ontario Football Conference, the Sault Sabercats are looking to build off successful seasons last summer at both the junior varsity and varsity levels.

The JV Sabercats open regular season action on May 18 at home against Oakville in a 1 p.m. kickoff before a pair of road games – on May 25 at Sarnia and June 1 at Chatham.

The schedule sees the JV team play four games at home, all 1 p.m. kickoffs at Superior Heights.

The team also hosts Brantford on June 8, Forest City on June 15 and Sarnia on July 13.

The JV Sabercats went 7-1 last summer, winning seven straight games after opening the season with a loss.

After a 6-2 record last summer, the varsity club is also set to return to action on May 18 with a home game against Brantford at Superior Heights. Kickoff is 4 p.m.

The varsity Sabercats home schedule includes games against Hamilton on June 8 and Chatham on June 15, both of which are 4 p.m. starts.

The home portion of the varsity schedule wraps up on June 30 against Waterloo. The lone Sunday game at home for the varsity Sabercats is a 1 p.m. start.

Meanwhile, the Sault Steelers resume Northern Football Conference action this summer.

The NFC released a copy of its initial schedule via social media earlier this month and that version had the Steelers set to open regular season on the road on May 25 in Sarnia against the Imperials and opening home action two weeks later against the Sudbury Spartans.

A confirmed schedule is expected soon.

Meanwhile, the team also has events planned this summer on conjunction with the schedule. Details on those events are expected soon.

All three clubs are in the midst of spring workouts and begin to move to outdoor workouts thanks to the warmer weather of late.
