Sault College men's basketball team picks up weekend split

After losing the weekend opener on Saturday, the Sault College men rebounded for a Sunday win

A weekend of Ontario Colleges Athletic Association basketball saw the Sault College men’s team pick up a split against Niagara.

Meanwhile, the Sault College women’s team dropped a pair of games on the weekend road trip.

In men’s action on Saturday, Sault College couldn’t battle back from a tough opening quarter in a 97-69 loss.

Niagara jumped out to a 24-10 lead through one quarter en route to Saturday’s victory.

Rahim Bardi led Niagara with 18 points and 21 rebounds while Kennon Larmand chipped in with 17 points.

Kevon Clarke led Sault College with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

Simon Wal had 14 points for Sault College.

In Saturday’s women’s game, Terin Hultink had 20 points, 14 rebounds and four steals as Niagara picked up a 67-41 win.

Kaisen MacKinnon added 17 points for Niagara.

Skylar Toms led Sault College with 12 points while Clara Yanchuk chipped in with 11.

The Niagara women’s team capped off the weekend sweep with a 75-50 win on Sunday afternoon.

Elisabeth DeBoer led Niagara with 18 points while Hultnik had 17 points and 16 rebounds.

Emma Filion led Sault College with 12 points. Yanchuk finished the day with 10.

On Sunday in men’s action, Sault College held an eight-point lead at the half and held on for an 87-83 win.

Wal had 24 points to lead Sault College while Tristen Kamel added 20 points.

Clarke added 14 points and 14 rebounds for Sault College.

Daniel Lokole had 24 points to lead Niagara in scoring.

Sterphone Augustin had 15 points and 14 rebounds while Lequan Hylton also had 15 points.

Regular season action wraps up for both teams with home games against Mohawk beginning on Feb. 15.
