Sault College women's curling team wins silver

The Sault College women's curling team is returning home with medals after a strong weekend at provincials

The Sault College women’s curling team had a successful weekend at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association provincial tournament.

The team, which includes skip Michelle MacLeod, vice Melanie Jefferson, second Amelia DiVincenzo, lead Hilary Ireton, and spare Kelsey Woods, returned home from the three-day event at the Peterborough Curling Club with a silver medal.

After dropping their opening game 9-0 to Humber, the Sault College women went on to beat Fanshawe 8-5 to even their record at 1-1.

Day two saw Sault College pick up a 5-4 win over Confederation to move to 2-1.

The team then moved on to semifinal action after finishing the round robin with a 9-8 win over Fleming. In the semi, Sault College proceeded to beat Fanshawe to advance to the final where they dropped an 6-3 decision to Humber.

The Sault College men’s team, which includes skip Jacob Reid, vice Josh Hales, second Loris Elliott, lead Kevin Morin, and spare Hunter Schumacher, finished fourth after losing in the bronze medal game against Fanshawe.

The men’s team went 2-3 in round robin action before losing to Humber in semifinal action.

A pair of mixed doubles teams from Sault College were at the event as well with both finishing out of playoff contention.
