****NEWS RELEASE****

The Dundee Wealth Management U16 Girls Civics soccer team returned home this past weekend once again with a Tie against the Waterloo Wildcats and a Win against the Kitchener Spirit in the Western Ontario Soccer League.

In Game 1 on Saturday the Firestorm was plagued by crossbars and goal posts as they could not get one by the Waterloo netminder. On the other hand Waterloo could not get by the Sault Keeper Jodie Gillespie and the first game of the weekend finished scoreless.

On Sunday in Game 2 the Firestorm found themselves down at the half by 1 goal as the Kitchener Spirit managed to capitalize at the 43 minute mark on a corner kick and put one by the Sault keeper. Just before half time Kitchener was awarded a free kick from just outside the box because of a handball on yet another corner kick by Kitchener. A hard kick by Kitchener put the Spirit up by 2. A light drizzle began, but that was not enough to put the fire out in the Firestorm as they began to dominate the field in the second half.

The Firestorm began to burn at the 52 minute mark of the game as Kristen Seaton started it all off with a goal for the Sault putting them within 1 goal of the Spirit. The Storm tied up the game at the 62 minute mark as Carissa Holley pounded another one past the Spirit Keeper. Just 1 minute later Meghan Diangelo put the Firestorm ahead for the first time of the day with another shot from just outside the 18 yard box as the Kitchener Spirit’s defense began to crumble under pressure from the Firestorm Offense. With 85 minutes into the game Seaton closed the door on any possibility of Kitchener coming back with yet another to end the game with a 4 to 2 win.

The Sault’s next action will be this coming weekend when they play at Tom Tipton Field against Kitchener beginning at 11:00 AM. on Saturday and London on Sunday beginning at 12:00 Noon.
