Sault swimmers make the north proud at Toronto meet

A total of 12 new personal best times were set by local swimmers, along with 4 new club records

The Sault Surge Aquatic Team came home from their most recent meet as the top scoring team in the North-Eastern Region.

The team also set 12 new personal best times along with four new club records.

The team finished in the top half with a 44th overall finish.

The Sault Surge Aquatic Team had a strong showing at the recent Ontario Festivals Championships held at the Etobicoke Olympium.

The Surge finished the meet as the North-Eastern Ontario Region top scoring team by bettering the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club by 1 point. The Sault Surge finished in the top half with a 44th overall finish.

Well over 800 swimmers representing 90 swim clubs were in attendance at the meet which served as the final championship meet for 12/under aged swimmers in the province.

A total of 12 new personal best times were set by the local swimmers along with four new club records.

Sophia Li, 12, led the way for the Surge squad by finishing in seventh place in both the 100m and 200m backstroke while setting new team records in the 200m Backstroke, 200m and 400m freestyle events.

William Paranuik, 10, swimming in his first ever provincial level meet swasm to personal best times in each event that he swam including a drop of over 13 seconds in the 200m backstroke and setting the new team record for the boys 10 and under age group.

Emma Vallee, 12, set new personal best times in the 50m freestyle as well as 100m and 200m breaststroke. 

The Sault Surge continues training to compete provincially at the Ontario Summer Swimming Championships upcoming in July at the Toronto Pan-Am Sports Complex.
