Ski Runners honoured on awards night

The Searchmont Ski Runners put a cap on a stellar alpine ski season with their annual awards banquet over the weekend.

The Ski Runners ended their season in April by capturing their 13th consecutive Inco Cup, symbolic of the Northern Ontario Alpine Ski Championship.

David Ghent-Kyle, who competed in the international Whistler Cup this season, led the team with two award presentations.

The Sudbury native won the Bumbacco Sports Trophy as the top male in the Juvenile K2 category and the China Coach's Choice Award for dedication and perseverance.

Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick was presented with the Kurisko Trophy as the top K2 Juvenile female while Greg Moser won the Dalseg Trophy as the most improved K2 male. Gillian Scott captured the Green Trophy as most improved female.

Ghent-Kyle, Fitzpatrick and Moser all competed in the MARS Juvenile Ski Championships this season in Banff.

In the K1 division, McKenzie Financial Provincial Championship participants Meagan DiAngelo and Matthew Horbatuk were named the top female and male, respectively.

Devin Labelle was named the most improved male and Goulais River's Heidi Poldmaa was selected as the most improved female. Iain Hutchison won the most sportsmanlike honours.

In the Nancy Green Level Two category, Meaghan Horbatuk won the top female award while Jordan Dugas was awarded as the top male. Both led the Ski Runners to the Under-10 title at the Northern Ontario Division McKenzie finals.

Graham Pavelich was named as the most improved male while Kaili Labelle was the most improved female. Kieran Fitzpatrick won the Coach's Choice award.
