The Superior Heights Steelhawks broke open a tight game with a strong second quarter en route to a city girl’s high school basketball title on Friday night.
The Steelhawks beat the Korah Colts 50-37 Friday at Sault College to win the senior city girl’s high school title.
Tessa Leveille led Superior Heights with 12 points, including six in the second quarter when the Steelhawks began to pull away.
Alea Nye added eight points while Breanna Hodkinson chipped in with seven.
Gracie Sloss of Korah led all scorers in the game with 14 points.
Kyler Grisdale added eight points for the Colts.
Both schools will represent Sault Ste. Marie next weekend in Sudbury in the AA/AAA Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) tournament.
In Friday’s junior final, Ashlyn Noble had 24 points, 12 in each half, as the St. Mary’s Knights captured the junior title with a 42-30 win over Korah at Sault College.
Leading 27-23 heading into the fourth quarter, the Knights took over the game in the frame, which included nine points from Noble in the quarter.
Kiera Kent eight points for St. Mary’s.
Ella Zachary led Korah with 10 points.
Like their senior counterparts, both St. Mary’s and Korah will compete in Sudbury in the AA/AAA NOSSA event.
