Stolen Torino gold medal returned to athlete

************************* Stolen Olympic gold medal returned Paul Rosen's nightmare comes to an end as the gold medal he won at the 2006 Paralympic Games in Torino is finally returned TORONTO, ONTARIO - Paul Rosen, goaltender for the Canadian Sledge Hockey Team and motivational speaker, can officially put this emotional week behind him.

At approximately 9 p.m. Friday evening, police Constable PC Tanham from the 32nd division notified Paul that his gold medal, which was stolen at a Shoot for a Cure charity event last Saturday at Downsview Park, has been returned.

The thief dropped the gold medal in a mailbox in Downsview, which was later discovered at the Central Sorting Station where postal workers empty the daily collection mailbags.

The supervisor on staff immediately notified the police, who were already aware of the case.

Constable PC Tanham called Paul Rosen, asked if he was sitting down, and then shared with him the good news.

"I am just relieved that whoever took the medal decided that this was the right thing to do," says Paul Rosen.

"This has been a very emotional week," Rosen said.

"I am grateful for all the support the community and media gave me," he said.

"This medal means more to me than I could ever explain."

"I am just so happy to be getting it back."

Paul Rosen will pick up the gold medal today at the 32nd division, located at 30 Ellerslie Avenue.

As a true inspiration, this past week Paul did not let the incident of his stolen medal slow him down.

He continued to speak at several corporate events where he shared his story of determination and passed around some of his most treasured Olympic keepsakes.

Thankfully, the gold medal can now be part of his moving presentation again.
