The championship at the latest Grand Slam of Curling event of the season will see Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs face Niklas Edin of Karlstad, Sweden on Sunday in Conception Bay South, Nfld.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, advanced to the final of the National on Saturday thanks to a semifinal win over Brad Gushue of St. John’s, Nfld.

Jacobs scored a 5-3 win over Gushue while Edin beat Bruce Mouat of Edinburgh, Scotland in the other semifinal.

Against Gushue, Jacobs fell behind after Gushue scored in the opening end with the hammer to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Jacobs rink recovered quickly, taking the lead for good in the second end by scoring three of his own.

The teams traded singles in the following two ends as Jacobs held a 4-2 lead through four ends.

After blanking the fifth end, Gushue scored one in the sixth to make the score 4-3 but Jacobs would proceed to blank the seventh end before sealing the win with one in the eighth.

Jacobs stole his way into the semifinal.

Facing Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher in quarterfinal action, Jacobs picked up a steal of one in an extra end to advance.

The teams traded singles throughout the opening four ends.

After blanking the sixth end, Bottcher took a 3-2 lead in the sixth.

Jacobs proceeded to blank to seventh before scoring in the eighth to send the game into the extra end.

In the extra end, Bottcher was heavy on a draw for the win, giving Jacobs the steal and the spot in Saturday’s semifinal.
