A stretch of four games in five days continued for the Soo Thunderbirds on Wednesday night and the team stretched its Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League winning streak to five games.

The Thunderbirds skated to a 7-0 win over the Elliot Lake Wildcats on Wednesday at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Jacob Kovacs opened the scoring with a power play goal just under four minutes into the contest as he hit a one-timer on a feed from Rylan Clemons with the locals on a two-man advantage to make it 1-0.

Later in the frame, Tyler Savard went to the net and redirected a pass from Clemons to send the game into the first intermission with the Thunderbirds leading by a pair.

Savard got his second of the night seven minutes into the second period as he went in on a breakaway and beat Elliot Lake goaltender Jonathan Lemaire with a deke to the stick side to make it 3-0.

Kovacs would make it 4-0 four minutes later on a rebound in close.

Ty Zachary got his first NOJHL goal to round out the scoring in the second period as he scored on a rebound in close.

Avery Rebek made it 6-0 with a goal in the opening minute of the third period while Cooper Smyl rounded out the scoring midway through the frame.

Savard finished the night with two goals and assist while Clemons and Tristan Cicchello assisted on three goals each for the Thunderbirds.

Dakota Meyer made 19 saves for the shutout.

Lemaire made 32 saves for the Wildcats.

The Thunderbirds improve to 26-14-2-3 with the win while Elliot Lake falls to 5-39-1-0.

The Thunderbirds return to action on Friday night in the opening game of a home-and-home series with the Blind River Beavers.

The weekend set begins Friday night locally before shifting to Blind River for Saturday’s game.

Puck drop on Friday is set for 7 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
