Thunderbirds close weekend with a loss

The Soo Thunderbirds saw a tough weekend come to an end with a 4-2 loss to the Manitoulin Islanders on Saturday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Saturday's result followed a 3-0 shutout loss to the Michigan Soo Indians on Friday at the Big Bear Arena.

The Thunderbirds led by a 2-1 score midway through the second period before the Islanders finished with the game's final three goals.

Brett Perlini and Kyle Rodgers scored for the Soo while Tyler Gendron set up both goals. Ryan Dube took the loss in goal.

With the loss, the Thunderbirds fall back to the .500 mark at 16-16-0-1 for 33 points and a sixth place standing in the seven-team Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. The club sits two points out of fifth place and seven points out of fourth.

The Thunderbirds are back in action on Friday as Sudbury visits the Rhodes for a 7:30 p.m. start.
