It was their second meeting in just over a week and the Soo Thunderbirds got a little revenge on the Powassan Voodoos.
After the Voodoos won the lone meeting between the two clubs in Sault Ste. Marie on Nov. 22, the Thunderbirds returned the favour on Saturday night, beating the Voodoos 4-2 at the Powassan Sportsplex in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.
With the Voodoos holding a 2-1 lead just under five minutes into the second period, three unanswered goals, including goals 24 seconds apart by Cooper Smyl and MacKenzie Walkington, were the difference for the Thunderbirds.
Smyl tied the game as he took a feed in the slot from Will Josephson and beat Powassan goaltender Owen Say stick side and Walkington gave the visitors the lead as he went to the net and redirected a feed from Avery Rebek.
Rebek and Brock Santa Maria also scored for the Thunderbirds in the win.
Dylan Parsons assisted on three Sault goals.
Dakota Meyer stopped 34 shots for the Thunderbirds.
Gregory Trudeau-Paquette and Parker Bowman had a goal and an assist each for Powassan.
Say made 26 saves.
The win improves the Thunderbirds record to 15-11-1-3 as the team heads into action on Sunday night on the road against the Rayside-Balfour Canadians.
Powassan falls to 24-4-0-0.
