The Soo Thunderbirds had a pair of streaks end on Saturday night.
The team had its six-game winning streak, along with a shutout streak of over 180 minutes, snapped Saturday in a 6-3 Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League loss to the Blind River Beavers at the Blind River Community Centre.
A pair of goals by high-scoring forward Caleb Serre late in the second period broke a 3-3 tie for the Beavers and Devon Savignac sealed the win late in the third period.
Serre finished the night with three goals, giving him 45 on the season, and assisted on another goal. Serre has 97 points in 47 games this season.
Noah Minns had a goal and two assists for Blind River while Kyle Quinn added a goal and an assist.
Nathan Balkwill assisted on three Blind River goals.
Beavers goaltender Jackson Hjelle stopped 30 shots.
Camden Findlay had a goal and an assist for the Thunderbirds.
Rylan Clemons and Brock Santa Maria also scored.
Will Josephson assisted on a pair of Thunderbirds goals.
Sault goaltender Sam Evola made 38 saves.
The loss drops the Thunderbirds record to 27-15-2-3 and sit in third in the NOJHL’s West Division with 59 points, seven ahead of the Soo (Mich.) Eagles, and nine behind the Beavers.
The Beavers improve to 32-11-1-3 and are tied with the Rayside-Balfour Canadians for top spot in the division.
The Thunderbirds return to action on Feb. 8 on the road against the Elliot Lake Wildcats.
