Time to get your skis and boards waxed

Five years, 5,000 pairs of skis and boards waxed, and $120,000 raised, ski wax days moves to one day nationally. On November 18, over 45 local ski clubs and their local Pontiac GMC dealers will wax another 2,000 skis and add $40,000 to the total dollars raised.

Ski season is just around the corner and local ski clubs across Canada are inviting ski and snowboard enthusiasts to bring their equipment into their nearest participating Pontiac GMC dealership. For a donation, amateur alpine ski racers will wax their skis and snowboards. Last year more than 1,500 skis and boards were waxed raising over $30,000 for ski clubs.

"National Ski Wax Day is a great way to get local ski clubs interacting with the community and raise much-needed funds to support the clubs racing activities," said Ken Read, Chief Executive Officer, Alpine Canada Alpin. "Some of these racers represent the future of Alpine ski racing in Canada. Come get your skis and boards tuned-up for what promises to be a great winter season and help support the development of these aspiring Olympians."

Fred Lautenschlager, Manager of Sponsorships & Promotions, GM of Canada said, “For the last five years we have been building Ski Wax Days to the point where we now will have one day dedicated to raising money for young ski racers. We have a goal of waxing 500 more skis than we did last year, bring in at least $40,000.00."

All proceeds raised from these community events will aid ski clubs in purchasing new training equipment, hosting races and helping local ski racers pursue their Olympic dreams. The Searchmont Ski Runners and Prouse Motors have teamed up once again for this year's Ski Wax Day in Sault Ste. Marie. Members of the Ski Runners will be on hand to wax your skis from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm for a nominal fee. A special draw will be held for a alpine ski helmet and goggles.
