Zack Torquato is beginning to make his mark on the Canadian entry at the Junior World Cup in Europe.
The Sault native scored a goal to help Canada to a 5-0 exhibition win over the Czech Republic earlier today. The game was played in Breclav, Czech Republic just two days before Canada opens the tournament in Piestany, Slovakia against Switzerland.
Luke Schenn, Angelo Esposito, Tyler Ennis, and Kyle Turris also scored for Canada while goaltenders Trevor Cann and Justin Leclerc combined for the shutout.
Canada officially opens the tournament on Tuesday against the Swiss before facing Sweden on Wednesday and Slovakia on Thursday. All of Canada’s round robin games will be held in Piestany, site of the famous brawl between Canada and Russia in the 1987 World Junior Hockey Championships. Games in the tournament will also be played in Breclav.
