Tween A ringette team gets final prep for provincials

The Soo Tween A ringette team came away with one win, two losses and a tie in an evenly matched tournament this past weekend in Ajax. Rachelle Graham's outstanding netminding lead the team to a 2-0 win over Burlington in their opening game Friday.

The Soo Tween A ringette team came away with one win, two losses and a tie in an evenly matched tournament this past weekend in Ajax.

Rachelle Graham's outstanding netminding lead the team to a 2-0 win over Burlington in their opening game Friday. Jessica D'Angelo and Haley Closs provided the goals, and Katie O'Connor and Riley-Jo Linklater supplied the assists.

Later that evening, the Soo girls surrendered a two goal lead in a 6-4 loss to Ajax. D'Angelo and Closs each contributed two goals in the battle. Linklater had two assists while others were supplied by Lesia Kinach, Jamielyn Larose and Maggie Kirkwood (2).

In Saturday's only game, the team suffered a 5-3 loss in a close contest against Nepean. D'Angelo provided another two goal performance and Linklater picked up one goal and an assist. Kinach provided two assists, with singles supplied by Linklater and O'Connor.

In the final game of round robin play, the Soo girls rivalled Burlington head to head only to surrender a goal in the last two minutes, ending the game in a tie. Kinach opened the scoring, followed by two goals for D'Angelo. Assists were supplied by Linklater, D'Angelo, Kinach and Jessica Sidwell.

This is the team's last weekend of competition as they prepare for the Ontario Ringette Provincial Championships hosted by Sault Ste. Marie on March 23-26, 2006.
