St. Basil won two three showdowns with St. Mary's in emerging as city champions in the midget and senior divisions of the Sault boys high school basketball league. The tripleheader was played before capacity crowds Saturday night at the Korah gym.

MIDGET: It was another city final playoff disappointment for St. Mary's head coach Dave Zagordo, whose team took a 16-0 record into the finals. Jeff Coccimiglio's 21 points led St. Basil to a stunning 41-40 overtime upset of St. Mary's, which also lost in the city finals in 1997 after going in undefeated. St. Mary's also lost the 1998 city championship to Bawating after finishing tied for first. Jordan Forbes led St. Mary's with 13 points. JUNIOR: St. Mary's capped an undefeated season locally with a 37-28 win over St. Basil. Pat Murray led St. Mary's with 12 points and Matt Neveu added 10. Josh Marasco, with nine, led St. Basil. SENIOR: Last-second free throws by Neil Joy and Mike Bouchard broke a 49-49 tie and gave St. Basil a 51-49 win over St. Mary's. Bouchard finished the game with 18 points and Joy added 13. Matt Chaimbrone led St. Mary's with 19 points.
