The Culligan-Prouse Under-14 Boys Civics captured gold this weekend at the Gloucester Hornets Soccer Tournament.

A solid team defense that only allowed two goals in five games and some timely scoring were the keys to victory this weekend.

Brandon Warmington recorded three shutouts and was particularly solid in stopping two penalty kicks in the final round robin game against the Ottawa Fury.

Matt Leask scored on a penalty kick to give the Civics an early 1-0 lead. The team secured the victory on a second half goal by Danny McCulloch.

In the semi-final game, Culligan-Prouse were up against the Blizzard Laurentide, the team they tied in the tournament's opening game.

The Civics fell behind 1-0 on an unfortunate bounce and finished the first half down 1-0. They came out in the second half and Remo Febbraro got the Civics on the board early in the half and then scored again a few minutes later for the game winner.

Josh Medaglia added the insurance goal and the Civics were on the way to the final against the Nepean Storm.

The championship was a tight game with the Civics missing several glorious scoring opportunities. Warmington made several key saves and McCulloch scored in the second half to give the Civics all the scoring they would require to win the game.

The team survived the hot humid day to win their second tournament of the season.

On the opening day, the Civics began with the Laurentide Blizzard and fell behind 1-0 on a defensive miscue but rebounded nicely when Cam Prouse tied the score five minutes later. The team failed to capitalize on several good scoring opportunities were missed and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The second game against the Nepean Storm included shutout goaltending from Warmington. Anthony Rota scored the eventual game winner on a nice cross from David Fagan late in the first half.
