On Saturday at Tom Tipton Park, the Prouse Firebird U-15 boys Civics host the Brantford Red Devils of the South Region Soccer League in an Ontario Cup match.

The tournament format is a single game knockout with the winner hosting a quarterfinal match on August 12th.

“We will need to have a strong team effort to be successful,” stated head coach Don Hillstrom. “We really know nothing about our opponents but they play in a very competitive league and face more competitive games than our team which is a big advantage for them. I am very confident in our team and we are cautiously optimistic heading into the match.”

The Firebirds have competed in three tournaments this season with very good success, finishing second in an early season Sarnia tournament and winning the Lake Superior Cup held in the Sault in early June.

The biggest obstacle heading into Saturday’s game may be rust as the team has not played a game of this caliber in over a month.

“This is a great opportunity for our team to play a match of this importance on a home field, most of our tournament games are played out of town. I really think the team will get an added boost playing in front of family and friends and we would love to have a good fan base to cheer on our side,” continued Hillstrom.
