Sault Ste. Marie's Scotia Thunder turned in a brilliant performance over the weekend en route to capturing the Windsor Border Star International Soccer Tournament by going undefeated.

The Sault Ste. Marie girls Under-17 team won the title with a 4-2 victory over the Windsor Fury, a girl's Under-18 team as Jess D'Angelo, Sam Mitchell, Megan DiAngelo and Stevie Reville scored on penalty kicks for the Sault.

"We are very proud of the way the girls played and they represented the City well. We were facing a short bench, but fortunately with the help of three call-ups it was great for us to end the tournament on this note," said coach Robert Vagnini.

"It was a real team effort and the girls played hard. They knew the only way to win this tournament was by going out there and giving it all they had," said assistant coach Joe Ceglie.

In preliminary play, the Thunder beat Tecumseh Warriors 3-1, Lasalle Stompers 3-0 and 3-1 and tied Windsor Fury 0-0 in the tournament opener.

Against Tecumseh, Reville scored two goals and D'Angelo added one.

In the 3-0 win over Lasalle, D'Angelo had two goals and Reville scored once while Shannon Delarosbil added the shutout.

In the 3-1 victory over Lasalle, Reville, D'Angelo and Meri-Beth Manuel scored for the Thunder while Delarosbil recorded the shutout in the 0-0 tie against Windsor.
