The White Pines Wolverines skated to an impressive win to open the High School Hockey League city championship series on Monday night at Memorial Gardens. Tommy Sywstun led the Wolverines with two goals in a 6-1 win over the Korah Colts.

The White Pines Wolverines skated to an impressive win to open the High School Hockey League city championship series on Monday night at Memorial Gardens.

Tommy Sywstun led the Wolverines with two goals in a 6-1 win over the Korah Colts.

Anthony Slvano, Corey Wensley, Josh Reed and John Nolan also scored for the Wolverines while Elliot Marlow replied with the lone goal for Korah.

In a series to determine the city's third Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) representative, the St. Basil Saints beat the St. Mary's Knights 3-2 in overtime.

Luke Ruicci, Kyle Hoffman and Mike DiPasquale, with the game winner, scored for St. Basil while Jesse McAllister and Josh Ingrabelli replied for the Knights.

Both series resume on Thursday night at Memorial Gardens with the Wolverines and Colts meeting at 7 p.m. followed by the Knights and Saints at 8:30 p.m.

Sault Ste. Marie will host the NOSSA AA championships while the AAA playdowns will take place in North Bay.
