It was an emotional evening for Late Model driver George Wilson at Laird International Raceway on Sunday.

The veteran driver and former Late Model champ raced on Sunday after the death of his mother on Saturday. Wilson proceeded to win both heat races and then cruised to victory in the Late Model feature. While sitting in second place, Wilson used a caution to take over the lead and he never looked back. Rick Leonard finished second in the feature and also finished second in the second heat race. Paul Seabrook passed Cory Furkey late to capture third spot in the feature. Nick Guerreiro won the fast car dash.

The Late Model feature wasn’t without its share of crashes. Rob Bolduc was knocked from the race early after crashing leading into turn three and Donnie Varcoe was involved in a major crash late in the race. Battling on the front stretch, Varcoe caught a piece of Guerriero’s car and was sent off the track leading into turn one. Varcoe’s car suffered heavy front end damage and left Varcoe angry at the event.

In the Factory Stock feature, Chris Jones picked up the feature win over John Fragale and Mike Corbett. Fragale picked up a heat race victory, as did John Hamilton. Rita-Ann Varcoe picked up the victory in the dash after a strange turn of events saw Dick Wellwood, Fragale, and Hamilton all form a line together as the green flag was waved by flagman Kevin King. The three showed no intention of racing and Varcoe was declared the winner.

The Modifieds Division saw Nick Kozak taking the feature win over David Slingsby and Dennis Uhlman. Kevin Oicle, a former Modified champion, won a heat race, as did Lorny Ebare. Kozak also won the dash.

Kozak and Mav MacDonald had a battle brewing all night after MacDonald was forced from one of the heats and the feature race due to car damage. The two were involved in contact on a pair of occasions that caused MacDonald to pull his car from the race due to car troubles.

In the A-Main feature in the Stock Four Division Jake Irwin picked up the victory over Kyle Jarrett and Dean Wade. The B-Main feature saw Brandan Penno and Jack Lannigan take the top two spots, earning spots in the A-Main feature. John Gardner, Margaret Lacourciere, Tyler Parsons, and Tristan Anderson all won heat races on the night.

Laird continues their schedule on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
