Wolverines grab early win at NOSSA

Anthony Silvano scored two goals to help the White Pines Wolverines to a 5-1 win on Tuesday morning at the Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) AA Hockey Championships at Memorial Gardens.

Meanwhile, the city champion Korah Colts fell 4-1 to Sudbury's Confederation Chargers.

Against Mattawa's F.J. McElligott Voyageurs, Matt Santos, Justin Wensley and Corey Wensley also scored for White Pines. Jesse Moore replied for the Voyageurs.

Daniel Ferris scored the lone Korah goal while Confederation's scoring was supplied by Brandon Daynard, Lucas McAlpine, Evan Zimmerman and Bobby Marion.

Action continues tonight at the John Rhodes Community Centre with McElligott meeting Confederation at 6 p.m. followed by Korah and White Pines at 8 p.m.

On Wednesday at the Gardens, the round robin concludes with McElliott meeting Korah at 9 a.m. followed by White Pines and Confederation at 11 a.m.

The top two teams will then meet for the championship at 7 p.m.

The eventual NOSSA champion will advance to the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association (OFSAA) championships March 22-25 in Timmins.
