After giving up first place last week, Skip's Kweok bounced back to the top of the standings with two shut out wins this past weekend.

One win came with "Charlie" Boissoneau between the pipes for her first shut out of the season and the second win came with no goalie between the pipes for a "Team Shut Out", a first for the record books in the WHL.

Seven games in total took place on the weekend at the Rankin and McMeeken arenas.

*** WEEK NINE GAME RESULTS:

Lafarge – 4 Country Way – 4

Country Way picked up a point after battling with Lafarge to a 4-4 tie. Lafarge scored twice in the opening period and Country Way replied with two of their own in the second frame. The teams traded goals in the third as Country Way jumped ahead on two occasions, only to have Lafarge score the equalizer both times. Sherry "Boom Boom" Boston was in on all four goals for Country Way, scoring twice and setting up Linda Benedek twice. Benedek, Trish Evans and Sharon Abrams each added one assist. Patti Storozuk had two goals and an assist for Lafarge while Trish Secondi scored once and had one helper. Lafarge netminder, Nancy Dewling, noted that Secondi's goal, which tied the game at 3 apiece midway through the second, "was one of the prettiest goals scored this year." (Secondi graciously declined to comment). Shelli Ubriaco completed Lafarge's scoring, tying the game with 3:02 remaining. Alicia Pollock and Sharon Templeton each had one assist.

Skip's Kweok – 2 B&J Trucking – 0

Charlie Boissoneau shut out B&J Trucking for Skip's first shut out win of the season. Leah-Anne Pine and Mona Jones each scored once and added an assist for the Kweok, while Elaine Angelic had one assist. The win moved Skip's into a 3-way tie for first place with BDO Dunwoody and Sports Gold, all with 8 wins apiece. The loss was the second in a row for B&J who played with only eight skaters.

Algoma Insurance – 5 Ontario Concrete – 1

Debbie Johnston scored a hattrick and Nancy Houle scored twice to lead Algoma Insurance past Ontario Concrete 5-1. Johnston also added one assist along with Debbie Desgagne, Theresa Glover and Doreen Shaw. The win was the second in a row for Algoma after dropping six straight. Geri Miller had The Concrete's only goal with Denise "Deeter" Goldade getting the assist.

Crawford's Canines – 6 White Oak Paint – 1

The Canines also picked up their second straight win, downing White Oak Paint 6-1. Robyn Bourck and Laurie Masters handled the scoring for Crawford's as Bourck bulged the twine four times and Masters, twice. Vicky Irving and Lisa Rowlinson each had two assists while Leslie Bois, Suzanne Dunn and Cathy Toni pitched in with one assist each. Jennifer Greco was the only orange jersey to beat Crawford's goalie, Wanda Grife. Greco made no mistake on a rare rebound after Grife's initial stop on Debbie Beauchamp. Chris Elliott also had an assist on the play.

Source for Sports – 6 Lafarge – 3

The Source doubled up on Lafarge 6-3 with two goals each from Lisa Venier and Andrea Moraca and singles from Kellie Carter and Lisa Turco. Jenny Sayers had two assists while Carter, Venier, Carrie Mancuso, Chantal Anderson, Elaine Derosario and Donna May Sayers-Lariviere had one assist each. Sharon Templeton and Alicia Pollock scored for Lafarge along with Patti Storozuk who also added one helper.

Sports Gold – 3 BDO Dunwoody – 3

Sports Gold and BDO Dunwoody locked horns as the league's top two teams proved to be just as good as the other in a 3-3 tie. Kathy Pinkse scored twice for Sports Gold and Wendy Basawa scored twice for BDO in the tight-checking contest. The game also featured two of the league's top goalies with both Teri Bonnell (Sports Gold) and BDO's Cat Schryer matching each other's efforts. Brianne Greco scored Sports Gold's first goal of the game and, along with Penny Souliere, added one assist. Amanda Fata scored for BDO while Pam Jurich and Pam Booth each picked up an assist.

Skip's Kweok – 7 Country Way – 0

They say the best defense is a strong offense and Skip's proved the point in Sunday's final game, defeating Country Way 7-0, all while playing without a goalie. Skip's strategy to keep the play in their opponent's half of the ice for most of the game was the key to preventing Country Way from managing any kind of attack. Leah-Anne Pine scored a hattrick and had an assist while Mona Jones had two goals and one assist. Sue Sherrard added a goal and two assists and Elaine Angelic rounded out the scoring with a goal and one assist. The win moved Skip's into sole possession of first place, although both Sports Gold and BDO Dunwoody remain only one point behind, each with a game in hand.
