Bastien claims Jane Barsanti Memorial victory on playoff hole

Ryan Bastien secured his third straight victory ending with birdie on the second playoff hole. Bastien posted a one over par 72 Saturday to lead the field going in Sunday's final round. Peeter Walker trailing by four at the start of the day got things going early birdieing holes # 3, 4 and 5 to shoot 34 on the front nine against Ryan's 38 and the two found themselves tied at the top going into the back nine.

Walker took the lead on #10 after Bastien failed to make par. On the 11th hole a dog leg par 4, both players made par. Bastien's par on #12 against Walker's double bogey resulted in a two-shot swing in favour of Bastien. Walker's par against Ryan's bogey on #13 left the players once again tied. Both made par on #14, followed by another lead change on #15 after Peeter made par to Ryan's bogey. Both made par on #16 and Walker had a one stroke advantage on #17 tee. A solid par by Bastien on 17 to Walkers bogey and things were all tied up again. Each player made par on the par 5 18th hole, with Walker carding a 72 and Bastien a 76. The two tied with totals of 148 a piece.

In the first playoff hole the par 4 #1, each player made par. Moving to the second playoff hole, Ryan Bastien secured his third victory in a row by making birdie against Peeter Walker's par.

"The players in the field were very complimentary on the condition of the course and found the greens to be firm and fast. Craig McBride our golf course Superintendent, along with his experienced grounds crew take great pride in maintaining our course and we feel very fortunate to have them on our team," said tournament chair Leroy Frazier.

"I want to recognize and thank our pro-shop manager Roland Grondin, kitchen manager Derek Babiuk, Jordan St. Pierre and all the kitchen staff and servers who added to this tournament. We are thankful to all volunteers including tournament co-chair and prior owners Harvey Barsanti and Roberta Barbeau for making this tournament a success," said Leroy Frazier.

"I want to congratulate Ryan on his win along with all of the other flight winners. I also want to thank all the players who came out to compete and support us here at The Root.
