Group Health Centre Trust Fund introduces 'Catch the Ace'

Group Health Centre Trust Fund has just received the first provincial licence in our area to administer a “Catch the Ace” progressive raffle lottery – an exciting new game that gained popularity in the East Coast provinces, where jackpots have grown to millions of dollars, and people traveled from all across the province to play.

For Ontarians who aren’t as familiar with the concept, this new game often needs a little explanation. Catch the Ace is a weekly draw with two prizes up for grabs each week: a weekly prize, handed out automatically to the person whose ticket is drawn; and a progressive jackpot that grows every week until it is won.

Every weekly winner automatically takes home a cash prize but in order to win the jackpot, they have to try to pick the Ace of Spades from a standard deck of 52 cards.

If the winner picks any other card, that card is destroyed, the game keeps going and the progressive jackpot continues to build – with no limit on how high it can go.

“This is such an exciting new event – there’s huge potential for Catch the Ace to become the biggest local lottery our community has ever seen,” said Teresa Martone, Executive Director of Group Health Centre Trust Fund.

Tickets for Catch the Ace will be sold from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Wednesday nights at The Machine Shop (83 Huron Street). Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20, with no limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased.

The draw takes place that night at 8 p.m., and you must be present to win. The first Catch the Ace draw will be held on March 1st, and the lottery will run every Wednesday until the Ace of Spades is “caught”.

Catch the Ace has the potential to become a regular community event and generate major fundraising dollars for Group Health Centre – with proceeds going toward medical equipment and eventually other capital projects such as a new building campaign.

“On the East Coast, Catch the Ace draw nights became a community gathering,” said Martone. “We’re hoping that the community of Sault Ste. Marie will embrace this new event, and come down to The Machine Shop to enjoy a fun night, catch up with old friends and have the chance to win big cash prizes.”
