Looking for a winter adventure? Calling all ski, snowshoe or fat bike enthusiasts: we’ve got a snow-filled challenge for you. On Sunday, March 1 join us for the 10th Annual Ski the Trails fundraiser at Hiawatha Highlands.

Unlike other athletic events, Ski the Trails is not a race. The concept is simple: how far you can ski, snowshoe or ride your fat bike? To join the fun, collect a minimum of $50 in pledges for Sault Area Hospital Foundation. Participants of all ages and levels can register and donate online by visiting www.sahfoundation.com/ski.

The first 50 participants to raise more than $150 will receive an awesome Sauce toque. Prizes will also be awarded to the top individual fundraisers. Your registration includes Hiawatha Highlands trail access, healthy snacks onsite at the Freshii tent, pancake brunch at The Water Tower Inn, and a Club Cabana Aqua Spa pass for a sauna/swim after.

This event started 10 years ago, when local anesthetists and avid skiers Dr. Dopp and Dr. Curran turned a friendly competition into a fundraiser. Throughout the last decade, they’ve raised over $125,000 towards the purchase of medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.

“With a broken ankle, I won’t be able to ski all the trails this year – like I usually do,” said Dr. Dopp. “But I’ll be there cheering on our skiiers, snowshoers and fatbikers! I’m so proud of this event we’ve created: we’re bringing awareness and support an important cause, all while doing something we love.”

Registration begins Sunday, March 1 at 8 a.m. in the Kinsmen Centre, and closes at noon. For guests choosing to brunch only, the fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years of age.

This event would not be possible without the partnership of the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club and Hiawatha Highlands. Thank you also to our generous sponsors Manfred Fischer Investment Planning Council, Freshii, RBC Securities, Family Dentistry on Bay, Floreani O’Toole Orthodontists, Arauco, Algoma Bicycle Company, Lake Superior Physiotherapy, Velorution and Fit Bodies Fit Minds.

“It’s been wonderful to see the event grow each year,” said Dr. Curran. “We hope this year, the 10th year, is the biggest yet. We’re so grateful to all of the businesses and individuals who have already lent support, and we welcome everyone in the community to come out and join us in supporting our hospital.”

Additional information about this event can be found at www.sahfoundation.com/ski as well as on the Sault Area Hospital Foundation’s Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/SaultAreaHospitalFoundation). For any other inquiries, feel free to contact Tasha Varpio at the Sault Area Hospital Foundation at 705-759-3848 or varpiot@sah.on.ca. Thank you and we’ll see you out on the trails!
