Local author Paula Dunning will be celebrating the publication of her second book, The Stuff of a Life, at a book launch on Sept. 15, 7-9 pm, at the Loft (Algoma Conservatory of Music, 75 Huron Street). Admission is free and all are welcome.

The book is a collection of memoir essays that focus and reflect on events and memories from the 1950s to the present. Dunning describes the book on her website (www.echoriver.ca) this way: A Quaker childhood, a hefty dose of adolescent insecurity, a conflicted relationship with 1970s Women’s Lib, an ill-advised business venture, a disastrous foray into politics, a post-retirement stint as a snow-bird—these and other experiences provide opportunities to reflect on larger questions.

Journalist and political commentator, Erna Paris, calls The Stuff of a Life “evocative and reflective...literary non-fiction at its finest.”

The event on Sept.15 will also feature local writers Mary-Lynn Murphy, Jeff Hinich and Peggy Lauzon reading from their latest work.

Dunning’s first book, Shifting Currents: A Memoir, published in 2016, was well received and a favourite among area book clubs. It will be available for sale, along with The Stuff of a Life, at the launch.
