NEWS RELEASE

MAC'S MUSIC

**************************
With a deadline looming at midnight this Friday, December 5, local grassroots blues and music enthusiasts are asking the Sault Ste Marie community to nominate local bluesman, guitarist, producer and songwriter Rusty McCarthy for the Toronto Blues Society’s 18th Annual Maple Blues Awards.

McCarthy is best known in the Sault as the organizer and driving force behind Blues Night at Algoma's Watertower Inn & Suites Pub, as well as events at many other musical venues in and around Sault Ste Marie.

But McCarthy’s musical world extends far beyond the Sault.

He has played and jammed with the likes of Alanah Myles, Tom Cochrane, Bare Naked Ladies, The Blues Brothers and the late, great Jeff Healy.

Rusty has performed all over the world, often as band leader and guitarist with Mary Margaret O'Hara, and has shared the stage with musical icons such as Sting, Lou Reed, Marianne Faithful, Steve Earle, and Elvis Costello.

Sault Ste. Marie is incredibly lucky to have a musician of McCarthy’s calibre and experience so active on the local scene, and his fans are hoping the community will step up and show their appreciation by nominating him for an award.

Supporters need to register to vote at http://www.mapleblues.ca.

They can then proceed to the “Electric Act of the Year” category, choose “Other” and type in Rusty’s name.
