Local job program nominated in national contest

Continuing their investment in local charitable organizations, Algoma Financial Group​has nominated The Centre for Social Justice and Good Works’ (CSJGW)

Mentorship Program for a contest funded by AVIVA Canada, a property and casualty insurance company, and the company’s A​VIVA Community Fund.​

The AVIVA Community Fund competition will award $1,000,000 in grand prizes to ideas in three categories:

Community Resilience, Community Health and Community Development.

The CSJGW’s Mentorship Program has been entered into the Community Development category for funding of $50,000 to $100,000.

To make it to phase 2 of this competition, the program will need to be one of those that receive the most votes through social media.

A panel of judges will then award funding to their top choices.

Voting begins on October 6, 2015 at 12 p.m. EST and ends on October 23, 2015 at 4 p.m. EST

The Centre for Social Justice and Good Works’ Mentorship Program is accessible and inclusive to all, and will target clients of Ontario Works, Aboriginals, people with disabilities, and youth interested in entrepreneurship opportunities to start a small business.

Dedicated business leaders in the community will act as mentors to the participants and provide the training and coaching necessary to develop the participant’s entrepreneurial skills.

This program will give participants who have not been in the workplace for an extended period of time an opportunity to learn entrepreneurship skills in an encouraging and emotionally stable environment.

Sault Ste . Marie residents, along with their friends and families , are encouraged to vote once each day.​
