Since 1904 the local Knights of Columbus have been working to support local charities and promote community services through out Sault Ste. Marie.

Continuing with the spirit of giving, the Knights, on Nov. 8, 2019, hosted a perogie dinner prepared by Father Jerry and staff held at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church bring awareness for the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District.

The Alzheimer Society held a silent auction at this event auctioning off over 45 prizes gathered by the Knights from generous merchants throughout the community. The Knights express their sincere thanks to these local merchants for their support of the gifts provided for the auction table. The auction brought in $1,149 in proceeds to be put towards local community programs delivered by the local society to persons living with dementia and their care partners.

As a result of their efforts, the District Deputy and Grand Knights of the five local councils (932, 7999, 11608, 12003 and 13655) gathered to present the Alzheimer Society with a cheque for $3,250, plus the proceeds from the auction for a total donation of $4,399 towards local programs and services.

The Alzheimer Society, the Knights stated, “is working diligently to provide a much-needed service in our community. Nearly every person has, to some degree, been touched by the cruelty of this disease.”

The Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District has had a long-standing relationship with the local councils of the Knights of Columbus. The Knights time and again have demonstrated their community spirit by continuing to show their faith and trust in the work of the Alzheimer Society. The society is most appreciative and grateful for their continued support in bringing much needed awareness and funds that support local services.

On behalf of the board of directors, staff and families, we extend our most sincere appreciation for the work that the Knights do and the support you provide to our organization. We value our partnership wand look forward to our continued success together.
