NEWS RELEASE
STITCHES FROM THE HEART QUILT GUILD
*************************
The Sault’s Stitches from the Heart Quilt Guild is hosting a 4 Corners and a Friend Quilting Workshop on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senior’s Drop-in Centre at 619 Bay St. in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

“Workshops are usually reserved for Stitches from the Heart Quilt Guild members but we have decided to open this one up to the community,” stated Margaret Brown, chair of the Workshops Committee and creator of this unique workshop style.

The 4 Corners Workshop will feature four accomplished members of the guild each of whom will be teaching a different quilt style and various techniques to ensure that you will enjoy success when quilting, sewing or enjoying other fibre arts.

Eileen Coulter will be teaching techniques on collage, a unique style of storytelling using various quilting styles such as applique and paper piecing.

Susie Kainula, a skilled machine and long arm quilter who successfully achieves accuracy in her piecing and is able to accomplish complex quilt designs using scrap fabrics, will provide instruction on a technique called curved piecing or Drunkard’s Path.

Cindy Connell, skilled in English paper piecing, will provide instruction on how to make perfect hexagons and to piece them together to make elaborate designs. Because this technique is portable, you can create hexagons while on the go like travelling in a car, relaxing at camp or visiting away from home.

Joan Davis, who has taught quilting for several years at the Soo Senior’s Centre, will be teaching various binding techniques, so that you will feel confident with expertly finishing your quilts.

For this workshop, students will set up machines and get comfy with their quilting friends in one of the four corners of the workshop space and the teachers will rotate amongst all four groups. Each workshop will be approximately 60 minutes providing plenty of time for instructions, questions and practicing the techniques.

“All four teachers have a wealth of quilting and teaching experience,” stated Brown, “students will be getting a real bang for their buck as the workshop is only $35 per person and includes lunch and a goody bag.”

Spaces are limited and are booking fast as workshops are usually reserved for Stitches from the Heart Quilt Guild members. For more information on this workshop or to sign up contact Margaret Brown through Saultquilts@outlook.com or by calling 705-253-6694.

Stitches from the Heart Quilt Guild was formed in 1992 and has 137 members all of whom enjoy quilting. We meet monthly on the fourth Monday of each month at the Senior’s Centre at 619 Bay St. at 7 p.m. We welcome visitors and new members who are interested in quilting. Each meeting features fun opportunities to develop new skills like Block of the Month, UFO challenges and wraps up with an inspiring member’s ‘show and share’.

Check out the quilts shown at last month’s meeting on our website or Facebook.
