It is with much love that we announce the passing of Pearl Andrew (nee Porter) on Friday, August 27th, 2021 at the wonderful age of 99 years (in her 100th year) after a long and good life.
She passed away peacefully surrounded by her two oldest daughters at the F.J. Davey Home, Driftwood 2, Sault Ste. Marie where she resided for the past 6 years. Her youngest daughter was able to spend time with her a week before, where they were able to share their love for each other. She is now reunited with her husband Ray who predeceased her in 2000.
Pearl is survived by her three daughters, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved all her grandchildren as much as they loved her. She was a cherished Grandma, GG, and Nana to them all.

Darlene Giunti (Pat Giunti) from Hilton Beach, St. Joseph Island; grandson Pat Guinti 2 (Heather) and son Pat Giunti 3 (Blair); Granddaughter JoAnna Redmond (Chris Redmond) from Sudbury; great grandmother to Grace, Abigail, Samuel. Catharine (Cathie) Andrew (Andy Dixon) from Nanaimo, BC.; granddaughter Lindsay Ross (Brad Ross) and great grandsons Isaac and Carson in Nanaimo BC; granddaughter Morgan Campbell (Damian Cartwright) and step great grandson Dexter in Redditch, UK.
Pearl was born in Delia, Alberta in 1922 and in her 20’s moved to Ajax, Ontario to work and be a part of the second world war effort. It was there that she met Ray Andrew. They married in King City, Ontario in 1946. After moving from Alberta, Pearl lived in Ontario the rest of her life. Pearl, Ray and their children lived in Welland, Oshawa, Ajax, St. Catharines, St Joseph Island and finally in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Pearl and Ray lived for many years, after building their home, on Hilton Road, St. Joseph Island. Prior
to entering the F.J.Davey home, she lived at Collegiate Heights for a number of years. No doubt there are people who may remember her from all those places, although many have predeceased her.
She was also predeceased by her brothers and sister & their wives/husbands (Francis Porter, Joe Porter, Earl Porter and sister Helena Derbyshire). She was much loved by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great great nieces and nephews on both the Porter and the Andrew sides of her family. Pearl was also much loved by the Haynes and Barrett families, long time family friends
from Jordan Station and Fonthill, Ontario. Pearl and family spent many times on Haynes family farm picking fruit.
Pearl believed in volunteerism and she passed on this community mindedness to her children. Earlier in her life she was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Ajax, volunteering in the community. She was active in Matthews Memorial Hospital Association, Richards Landing, St. Joseph Island, Ontario. She quilted many of the quilts for the raffle they held for the Richards Landing community night. Her family has many quilts to keep as a legacy to her love of the craft. She walked tall and strong holding the Matthews Hospital Auxiliary flag in their yearly parade. Loving her garden and flowers, she was a life time member of the St. Joseph Island Horticultural Society. For many years she was a member of “The Something from Nothing Club”, a quilting group at Willowgrove United Church, Sault Ste. Marie.
Pearl was a family historian for both the Porter and Andrew side of the family. We are indebted to her for masterfully gathering our multigenerational family history. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening, knitting, baking, cooking, canning and homemaking.
Her three daughters would like to thank all the staff at the F.J. Davey Home, particularly staff on Driftwood 2 who were dedicated caregivers and loved her for the past 6 years. They are angels - every one of them. We would also like to thank the members of the Canadian Legion Branch #25, Willowgrove United Church volunteers and the Clovervalley Woman’s institute for remembering Pearl by visiting and sending cards over the years.
Because of COVID-19, there will be no celebration of her life or memorial service at this time. At her wishes, Pearl will be cremated and we hope to have a small remembrance gathering at a later date in 2022.
