It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce that David Harold Aubin lost his battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis on Thursday October 5, 2023 at the age of 64. David passed away peacefully with his beloved sons Jeremy & Andrew holding his hands, surrounded by his brother Rick, sister-in-law Joanne, and his former wife Maria, mother of his sons. He was born on April 16, 1959 in Sault Ste. Marie to the late Eileen & Rene Aubin, predeceased by his brother Buddy Rene Jr. (Brenda), and sister Nancy (Lou). At the time of his death he was survived by his sister Debbi, nieces and nephews, Sheldon, Craig, Michelle, Pamela, Julian, Lucas and great nieces & nephews, Sheldon Jr., Jacob, Allie and Mila.

David was born and raised in the Soo, playing hockey at a very young age which he excelled at and played for many years. He would fondly tell stories of his childhood of skating at his good neighbours the Zuke’s backyard rink, spending time at the lake and many outdoor activities and adventures. He left the Soo at an early age heading west, following his good friend Bob for work. After a few years in Calgary and Edmonton, he tired of the extreme cold winters and came to Vancouver where he loved the mild climate and scenery. He met Maria in 1985 they fell in love and married in 1989. They had their 2 cherished sons Jeremy & Andrew a few years later. David spent many years as a hockey coach for his son Andrew’s hockey teams, and various scouting activities with both boys and shared his love of the outdoors with both of them. David shared his enthusiasm of skiing, camping, canoeing, love of cars and Indy racing with his son’s and they created many memories on the local mountains, camping all over, car shows, but especially enjoying camping on Vancouver Island and spending time with David’s long time friend Norm Therreir (Sheryl), and Dave Guther (Jan).

He had his very good childhood friends from the Soo, Anthony Brunetti, Mike & Al Wysynski and Monique Guy living in Vancouver and they had many gatherings over the years filled with storytelling and much laughter. David will be missed and fondly remembered by family and friends for his big heart, helping others, his love of conversations, stories and laughter. A big thank you to Anthony and Al who always kept his spirits up with their good company as his health started failing the last few years. A special thank you to the ICU, all the doctors, nurses, and specialists at Burnaby General and Vancouver General Hospital for their compassionate care during his last few weeks. David would encourage others to be an organ donor as it saved and extended the lives of his 3 older siblings. David was a donor and some of his organs have helped others. Pictures, condolences and memories can be shared on www.weremember.com as a tribute to David and his family. A celebration of life will be held in 2024 TBA.
