BRESCACIN, Mario Joseph (Scotch)

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father.  He was known to some as Mario, some as Joe and others as Scotch.  He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, December 12, 1919, youngest in the family of the late Giovanni and Maria Brescacin who came from San Fior, Treviso, Italy in 1912.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eva (Curren) in 2002, who he met in Dartmouth, NS and married before going overseas with the Canadian Army in 1943.  Mario was recently honoured with knighthood by the French government for his participation in the liberation of France during WWII. He will be missed by his son Laurie (Ardith) of St. Thomas, and grandchildren Angela Seabrook (Roman) and children Christian, Noelle and Soren of London; Carla Dew (Richard) and children Mitchel and Makela of London; and Rebecca Ong (Will) and children Samuel and Katie Jane of St. Thomas.  He will also be missed by his daughter Christina Bortolussi (Peter) and grandchildren Stefan Bortolussi (Rena Pittao) and children Elia and Dante of St. Stephen, NB; Matthew Bortolussi (Alison Davies) and children Michael and Mila of Woodbridge; and Adam Bortolussi (Janice) and son Marco of Port Credit.  Mario was predeceased by his brothers and their wives, Angelo (Nella), Gino (Rose), Albino (Gina), Bruno (Marge) and sister Carmela Candido and husband Joseph.  He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law Arthur Curren and wife Isabel of Halifax, NS and survived by sister-in-law Marguerite Hine (late Owen) of Sidney, BC.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews.  He will be missed by long-time friend Herman Cameron.  Mario was a musician and played the guitar well into his 90’s. He was an active member of St. John The Evangelist Parish for over 70 years. He was involved with the establishment of the Steelton Seniors Centre and has been an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion.  A private family funeral will be held at the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522).  Interment Greenwood Cemetery.  Memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.  Thank you to the F.J. Davey Home Cedar Grove 2 for their excellent care and kindness.  Thank you, also to Collegiate Heights Retirement Home where he lived happily for many years.
