Age 85, passed away suddenly and without pain on the morning of Friday, March 8, 2019 at home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He was born July 13, 1933 in Shoal Lake, Manitoba to Thomas and Sarah Brown ... (although the date is debatable, having parents that were staunch Irish Protestant, he lived the first 70 years of his life believing his birthday was July 12th, on Orangeman's Day) Growing up in Shoal Lake he worked for the local creamery that was famous coast to coast for making award winning butter (some say the queen ate it!). He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing hockey.
Tom married Patricia Bingham in Carman, Manitoba on April 7, 1962 and the newlyweds moved east to Sudbury, Ontario that same month. By June of 1966 they had moved again and settled in Sault Ste. Marie. He made life long friends in Ontario and there are many tales of fun times that stretch from Little Britain in Sudbury all the way to Tarentorus Curling Club in the Soo. He loved a good game of crib and a shot (or two) of rye whiskey, John Wayne movies, Louis L'Amour novels, the "Leafs", the "Jays" and music. In these past couple of years he had gotten really good at calling out his favourites to "hey Google!" Our memories of him will always be prompted by the sounds of Roger Miller's "King of the Road" and Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife Patricia, his children Pamela, Robert, Shirley (Derek), and David (Saundra). Dearest friends Peter and Ginette Immonen. Brothers Bill (Donna) and Gordon (Frances) Brown, brothers-in-law Robert and Ken (Diane) Bingham and their families. His grandchildren Adam (Kelly), Jordan (Carley), Ryan, Dylan, Simon and great-grandchildren Hannah, Maddison, Brennen, Emily and Eli will miss Papa very much. The family would like to thank the paramedics, firemen, and police officers that responded and Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel for their care and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. Alan McLean and the Superior Family Health team for their years of care. We are also so grateful for every kind word, message, and thought from our dear family and friends. At Tom's request there will be no funeral service and cremation has already taken place. Memorial contributions (payable by cheque) to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
