Cameron, Margaret

(Born Jan. 26, 1938, Blind River - died Jan. 16, 2022, Owen Sound)

Margaret was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ellen Wishart of Sault Ste. Marie. She was the sister of Marion (deceased, 2019), John (deceased, 2019), Rosalind of Calgary, Allison, and Pamela both of Sault Ste. Marie.
Margaret was the true friend and deeply loved partner of her husband, Scott, of Owen Sound.
Margaret loved her gardens. She knew each plant, shrub, and tree by name.
Margaret loved books. She memorized poetry, and savoured the plays of the bard. She was an inveterate reader of newspapers, Canadian literature, and children’s books.
Global travel with Scott always began with books and self-directed planned itineraries leaving room for serendipitous adventures enroute. She preplanned eating experiences in remote mountain villages in France. She located small galleries with unique art to explore in Italy. She found “off the beaten path” shops in China and Turkey.
Margaret loved the arts, music, paintings, and the culinary skills of a good cook when taken with a glass of fine wine. In her opinion, these were life’s great gifts when shared with friends.
Margaret’s sense of style was instrumental in the creation of their unique family home overlooking Georgian Bay.
But most of all Margaret loved her children, Charles and Gillian Austin, and her two grandchildren Ava and Molly Dodge Austin, all of Halifax.
Margaret was generous of spirit and material as a teacher and executive with the local Canadian Federation of University Women’s club.
Her strength of character shone through adversity and illness. Margaret’s infectious smile brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Her family thanks the staff at Kelso Pines Retirement Home, Caring Soul, and Paramed for their kindness over the years of Margaret’s struggle with vascular dementia.
Donations to Ontario Nature or Doctors Without Borders‎ Canada may be made in Margaret’s honour through the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th Street West, Owen Sound (519) 376-7492 www.woodfuneralhome.ca
