It is with great sadness and broken hearts that the family of Anselmo Chiarello announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Sault Area Hospital in his 76th year.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved, caring wife Maria of 52 years, his devoted and loving children Laura Chiarello-Palmer (Brad), Judy Lynn Pawelek (Alan) and his precious grandson Adam.

Predeceased by his parents Raffaele and Maria Carmela Chiarello of Aiello, Calabro Italy.  Anselmo was the adored brother of Carmine Chiarello (late Egilda) of Sault Ste. Marie, late Egidio Chiarello (late Francine) of Belgium. Cherished brother of Teresa Chiarello (late Geniale) of Sault Ste. Marie.  Special half-brother of Angelo Chiarello (Sarah Recht) of Germany.

Loved son-in-law of the late Carmine and Annina Trecroce.  Brother-in-law of the late Franco Trecroce (late Franca), Lina Blonda (Benny), John Trecroce (Angele) of Sault Ste. Marie.  Proud uncle to many nieces, nephews of Sault Ste. Marie, Toronto, Ottawa, Italy, Belgium and Germany.

Anselmo was a hard-working family man and an incredible provider.  He grew up in Aiello, Calabro Italy and bravely immigrated to Sault Ste. Marie at the young age of 20 in his quest for a better life.  At the age of 22, he met the love of his life, and devoted himself to 52 years building a life and family with his true companion and soulmate.  Anselmo worked many years at Algoma Steel, always taking an extra shift when offered to better provide for his family.  An avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and fishing, he meticulously planned and prepared annual hunting excursions with his closest friends namely John Nicoletta, Tony Francella and the late Mario Sicoly.  Before falling ill, he enjoyed the many Italian traditions such as making wine, sausage and fresh tomato sauce.  Some of his greatest pleasures were tending to his vegetable garden, and visits with family and friends sampling his home-made wine and salami.  There were also many years of happy vacation times in Acapulco, Mexico where he met and stayed in touch with dear friends Joyce and the late Carmine Venditti of Thorold, Rose and Joe Cristiano of Woodbridge and others until his final days.  He fought a long and hard battle with cancer valiantly for 34 years which ultimately took a toll on his heart.  But through it all, Anselmo persevered out of love for his family and especially for his grandson Adam, who gave him the extra strength and will to live these last few years, for which we are truly thankful.

The family would like to acknowledge the SSM Fire Services, the EMS and the Sault Area Hospital ER physicians, especially Dr. Eric Traficante, for their compassionate care. We also thank Dr. Silvana Spadafora and are eternally grateful for her endless medical wisdom, care and guidance over the years.  Special recognition goes to Dr. Ken Mohammed, Dr. Douglas Bignell, Dr. Sante Fratesi, Dr. Jonathan Bishop and Dr. Anis Aziz for the thorough healthcare provided to Anselmo over the years.  We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Dr. Robert Gryfe (Mount Sinai Hospital) and Dr. Tony Finelli (University Health Network) who are sincerely thanked for giving us so many more years with Anselmo because of their medical and surgical talents.  The family is grateful to the Community Care Access Centre, Paramed Home Health Care and the numerous PSW’s from CBI Home Health services especially Rachelle Mathieu for her meaningful visits and exceptional quality respite care provided to Anselmo.

In keeping with Anselmo’s wishes and due to COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held.  Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E. 705-759-2522). Memorial donations payable by cheque or online to the Heart and Stroke, the Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.  Please visit Arthur Funeral Home website obituaries to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.

Anselmo will forever live on in our hearts and be remembered by his kind and compassionate spirit.

Ti vogliamo tanto bene.  Riposa in pace caro marito, papa, nonno.  Sei sempre nei nostri cuori xoxoxo
