It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurine Ellen Crawford “Laurie” (nee Edwards) on Monday June 10, 2024.

Beloved wife of Tony McGurk of Elliot Lake. Laurie was born on August 10, 1941 to Mildred and Jack Edwards, both predeceased. She is predeceased by her sisters Shirley Hein (Ellard) and Carol Wasilchuk. Loving mother of (the late) Gord Crawford (Linda), Cindy Crawford Mikus and Mike Crawford (Leigh). Dear sister-in-law of Mary Doyle (Terry), Liam McGurk (Cindy), Anne Dixon (late Roger), Sean McGurk (Pat) and the late Brian McGurk. Loving Grandma to 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Laurie was born in Matachewan and moved with her parents to Sudbury, eventually settling in Elliot Lake to spend over 44 years with her best friend Tony.

Laurie was very friendly and always going above and beyond to help others. This was apparent during her 50 plus years in customer service, from working at Dairy Queen in Sudbury to Town & Grocers, Woolco & Zellers in Elliot Lake. Laurie was artistic and loved drawing and decorating her house for every celebration. Anyone who drove down Central Avenue will remember Laurie’s house as it was always beautifully decorated for every occasion from Canada Day to Christmas. Laurie enjoyed going to Bingo, Casinos and playing Nevadas. She looked forward to the scratch tickets that Tony always surprised her with. Every year, Laurie eagerly looked forward to her birthday celebration at Mike’s or Gord’s camps with family. Laurie will be forever remembered in our hearts.

Friends will be received at the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave) on Thursday June 20, 2024 from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am. Rev. Cory Vermeer-Cuthbert officiating. Interment to follow in Woodlands Cemetery, Elliot Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Elliot Lake Foodbank or to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Elliot Lake (Oncology Renovation Project) would be appreciated by the family.
