It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) on the morning of May 19, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Jim was born on November 23, 1951, in Sudbury, Ontario but resided for most of his life in Sault Ste, Marie and Ottawa, Ontario.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Viivi and son Mihkel, brothers Dan (Belinda), Jack (Debbie), sisters Anna (late Andre), Pam (Darryl) and brothers-in-law Sulev (Gale) and Kalev (Catherine). Jim was predeceased by his loving parents James and Ruth and his loved in-laws Julius and Laine Rauk. Special uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Goodbye our dear sweet Jimmy..

A lover of life, of family, of friends and living.. he enjoyed all who came his way and one did not leave his presence without feeling it.

A love for his only child Mihkel...of early morning hockey practice...of being Mihkel's team's Trainer...of passing on to Mihkel a passion for news and knowledge handed down to Jim by his father...of introducing his love of golf to his son which they could share for years to come...Jim so loved Mihkel.

A lover of Harley's, of a lifetime of of Sunday rides with Viivi, a trusted Road Captain for many on countless trips over endless miles of winding blacktop...his Harley and the highway were his joie de vivre...joined often in this pursuit with his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Sulev and Gale Rauk over many thousands of miles and memories.

A lover of the sea...of large ships...of being a navy cadet to working for the Canadian Navy, of his 34' Hatteras Cabin Cruiser, of dozens of cruises on the world's largest ocean liners to ports of call across the seven seas and of the myriad of friends he met along the way....the sea was his peace.

A lover of mountains and snow...and downhill skiing across our great country, a Canadian Ski Patrol Leader for several years he loved the exhilaration of black diamond runs and apres-ski with like minded friends.

A lover of books and reading...of knowledge and understanding...a voracious reader exploring both the world that has passed and the possibilities of a world to come...a wealth of knowledge and facts which became very evident in any game of trivia.

A lover of winter's away...of Florida and sunny, warm days with family and friends and another escape from winter's wrath.

A lover of the first tee and the 19th hole....but some days not much in between... of the camaraderie of walking down a fairway with his brothers followed by a cold draft later.. golf became a passion which he passed on and enjoyed with Viivi and his son Mihkel.

A lover of fine spirits...of red wine, rum, cold draft and single malts...and the enjoyment of celebrating these spirits with family and friends in gatherings great and small

A lover of gourmet cooking...of plated dinners or the Big Green Egg...a love of cooking and breaking bread....of hosting dinner parties or Boxing Day brunches...he was our Michelin star.

All of this and most tragically our beloved Jimmy was taken from us this day by the scourge that is cancer...but it did not take our memories....not a chance..they are locked safely away in our hearts...alongside our abiding love for you.

A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at the family home on June 10th.  Please drop by between 1:00pm - 6:00 pm.
