A mother’s love is unconditional and eternal.
The children of Joan Currie announce her passing at Algoma Manor on November 7, 2024.
Jennifer (Jack Freiburger), Kim, Tim, and Barbara (Nando Silveri) were by Joan’s side at the end of her journey and are forever grateful for the lifetime of memories they carry forward.
Joan married her beloved husband, Glen Currie, in 1954 and spent 66 years with him on the family farm until his passing in 2021. Some of her happiest days were spent with her grandchildren Lindsey (Jean), Leslie (Jeff), Chris (Amanda), Elissa, Daniel (Julianna), Emilie, Andrew, Anthony and Alex, and her great-grandchildren Kenzie, Grayson, Jackson, Lena and Mia.
Martha Lillian Joan Brown was born on April 28, 1933 to Harvey and Mabel Brown, and was raised in a farming community north of Iron Bridge.
She was predeceased by her siblings Raymond (Muriel), Joyce (Elmer), Bob (Leila), and Ken (Helen, Irene), and is survived by Keith (late Lorraine), Jean (Ivan), Eldon (Diane), June (Dale), and Linda (Clifford). She was also predeceased by Glen’s siblings Norman (Earla), Bert (Shirley), Tena (Jack), Walter (Gwen), Ken (Tiny), and Rhona (Ken).
Joan will be fondly remembered by so many nieces and nephews in the Brown and Currie families. Her baking was second to none, and everyone loved stopping by for a visit in hopes that some sweet treats had just come out of the oven, especially her Queen Elizabeth cake and butter tarts.
Having operated Morest Camp on Bright Lake with Glen for decades, Joan, her sisters, daughters, nieces and neighbours spent many Saturdays preparing cabins for their guests, who returned year after year and became friends for life.
Joan’s family is very grateful to the staff at Collegiate Heights and Algoma Manor for their care. A private family celebration of Joan’s life will be held at a future date.
