December 1, 1923 – November 14, 2024
It is with the heaviest of hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Nicola Della Penta, just shy of his 101st birthday with his daughter by his side as he was called home.
Beloved husband of the late Vilia for 68 years, loving father of Maria (Lynn) Williamson (Bradford, Ontario) and the late Nino.
Predeceased by his parents Agata Buttino and Nicola Della Penta (Italy) and his siblings Emilio Della Penta (late Maria) of the US, Berto Della Penta (late Adelina) of Sault Ste. Marie, Pasquale Della Penta (Angelina) of Montreal, Nicolina D’Abramo (late Nicola) of Montreal and Filomena Rinaldi (late Marcello) of Italy as well as his in-laws Louisa Franco (late Nunzio) of Montreal, Erminio Cordileone (late Adelina), (late Amelia) of Italy, Maria Brachio (late Nicola) of Argentina.
Nicola will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and special friends. Nicola was the happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Campochiaro, Campobasso, Italy, he immigrated to Montreal where he married Vilia Cordileone; then moved to Sault Ste. Marie living next door to his brother Berto (Adelina). Nicola worked at Algoma Central Railway retiring January 1, 1989, after 36 years of service. Nicola was a strong, determined virtuous man with few words. Nicola was a jack of all trades; but will be fondly remembered for his love of his garden, especially the tomatoes grown by the side of the house, his wine making and his backyard shed for his afternoon naps.
We would like to extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Jenkins, Brenda Paatt (Sault Area Hospital Ambulatory Care), Sue Doucette, Anna Diluzio and the staff of Great Northern Retirement Home. Special thanks to those who cared for Nicola during his last few days.
