It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Don at the Sault Area Hospital with his family by his side on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the age of 85.

Beloved husband of 60 years to Norna Deluney (Cassell). Cherished father to Edward & Suzanne Deluney. Dear grandfather to Joshua & Kendra Deluney, and Michael & Marissa Collins. Loving great grandfather to Hayden, Hunter & Harmony Deluney. Predeceased by his parents Frank & Stella Deluney, and his sisters Mae (Percy) Neal and Frances (John) Vermette. Survived by dear nieces and nephews.

Don was the epitome of kindness, generosity and love. He was a devoted family man who always welcomed his loved ones with open arms. He adored his wife Norna and was heartbroken when his illness forced him to move to a different residence. He spoke with pride about his children and loved to celebrate their milestones. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren with abandon and shared his hobbies with each of them.

An avid lover of nature, Don found peace in the great outdoors, spending many happy days hunting & fishing, snowmobiling and 4 wheeling with friends. In his later years, he delighted in feeding & viewing the animals & birds that visited his yard on St. Joseph Island, realizing a deep connection with the world around him.

Known for his sense of humour and ability to laugh at himself, he brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. His love for music knew no bounds and he found joy in singing and dancing to any melody. He sure knew how to cut a rug and was usually the last person on the dance floor! He valued holiday traditions with friends and family sharing a beverage, food, and most importantly stories and laughter. He made many wonderful friends wherever he went sharing his passions and extending a helping hand. His presence was a source of comfort and his seemingly carefree nature inspired many.

Don leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished traditions. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Thank you to the caring staff at Pathways Retirement Residence and F.J. Davey Home for providing dad with compassionate care during his final few years. Heartfelt thanks to Stephanie McCauley who added quality to his life in his final few months.

Rest in peace, Don. Your spirit will live on in our hearts forever. We love you.

At Donald's request there will not be a funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street E. 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Deluney family.
