Deschamps, George

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, George Deschamps, at his home on July 1st, 2021 at the age of 77.  He was predeceased by his parents George and Anna Deschamps of Blind River.  Survived by his loving  wife Brenda whom he absolutely loved and cherished. Loving father to Yvon (Charlene) of Timmins, Andre (Lisa) of Vancouver, Daniel (Nicolle) of Port McNicoll and loving daughter Joëlle of Espanola. Proud grandfather (pépère/pépé) to Reece, Reagan, Ryan, Saila, Chantal, Jake, Rylee and Riley (woof).  George also leaves behind his brother Marcel (Hugette) of Sturgeon Falls.  Predeceased by his siblings: Gérald (Darquise), Laurent (Rita), and Liliane (Bud).  Our father had many dear friends. Paul Ménard and Gérard Pezet were not only his childhood friends but also his travel buddies up until recently; longtime friend and neighbour Sally Horton (Popcorn).   Our dad enjoyed the outdoors and playing sports.  We will always remember our great camping adventures and cross country trips in the motorhome. Dad also loved hunting with his friends and family.  Thanks to him we have generations of hunters to come! Our father had fond memories of the years he worked at E.B. Eddy in Nairn as a scaler and a foreman and the long lasting friendships that he made there. After his retirement from the sawmill, he put his energy and dedication into becoming a successful and well respected realtor in the Blind River area. He also enjoyed spending his days cutting grass at Batman’s surrounded by his family and campground friends.  Travel was always one of his passions.  Brenda and George were able to enjoy many trips together.  Whether it was to visit family, sunny destinations or casinos, he always had a great time!

As our father’s health began to deteriorate, he was blessed to always be surrounded and supported by a close family friend, Albert (Johnny Buck) Bashaw and Brenda.  You both took such great care of our father. No words can describe how much that meant to all of us.  Our father had great respect for our healthcare system and for those who work in it.  We would like to thank everyone that helped make our dad as comfortable as possible over the past few months: Health Sciences North, North Shore Health Network, North East LHIN  and to all the medical professionals who cared for him.

As we say goodbye to our father, we would like to express how grateful and blessed we truly were to have him in our lives.  The three things he loved and cherished the most were: his children, Brenda and his friends.

Dad, you will be missed, but never ever forgotten. We love you! Go Jays Go!

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave). Online condolences to the Deschamps family may be made at www.elliotlakefuneralchapel.com.
